I'm seeing in the reviews it seems to be a recurring problem with this model. I'm hoping Barnett will be fair and honor their stated 5 year warranty, as I have just put in a repair request, will try to update or leave a secondary review when said and done
Had a recruit crossbow, sitting in my blind late December and heard a snap. First thought was a deer coming behind me. Come to find out the upper limb broke for whatever reason. I was not looking to get a new crossbow. I took it to an archery shop to see what it would cost to repair, the estimate was $230-$250. I decided to contact Barnett about the crossbow. They informed me of the trade-in deal they had going on. When I did the math, I ended getting a new crossbow for $245. Now, I had to pay to send my old crossbow back to Barnett which was $91. With the discount and shipping cost it cost me an extra $100 for a new crossbow. It would have cost me $250 to fix the old one. I feel Barnett did me right. If nothing was done, I could assure you I would have not purchased another Barnett crossbow.
I have a xp 370 for the last year . I have no complaints I love the bow.
I am very disappointed with the fact that I have to pull the cocking rope handles very far apart when cocking the crossbow to keep from taking the crossbow off of safety when I release the tension from cocking the crossbow. The hooks come in contact with the safety when you let off after cocking each time. I`ve owned 2 other crossbows and shot many other brands and never had to be careful that I would take the crossbow off safety after cocking. Poor design and the safety should be harder to put in the fire position. Safety of the hunter should be more important than the ease of the safety being switched to the fire position. The scope that came with the crossbow package was very poor as well.

Purchased two packages of strobe crossbow arrows at Cabellas. Attempted to sight in crossbow with them about a week later. Upon firing one of the arrows a second time I found the nock to be missing. A second arrow in the bunch of six total would not light up when fired. I contacted customer service and they sent me out a brand new replacement package of three arrows no wuestions asked. On top of this, these arrows are by far the most consistant arrows I have ever used. Amazing product and amazing customer service.
I got mine for $319 and it’s awesome. I ordered the crank for it because I have wrist problems. My center serving is showing a tiny amount of wear but far from needing a new serving. Factory scope is good enough for hunting deer to about 40 yards but you will need a better scope to see the full potential of this crossbow. Give it a good scope and good bolts and you will love it. I think it should come with 3 bolts instead of 2. Jim Walton I have a bunch of videos featuring this crossbow on my YouTube channel Backyard Broadheads. I wish I had more time to shoot it more.
Big punch coming from such a small compact crossbow. Really surprised how fast this little sucker is. My son loves it, and loves being on armadillo patrol.
This is not my first crossbow but it is the best one I have ever owned. I swapped out the somewhat basic scope that came stock for a larger one adjustable for velocity. Great call; I can put bolt after bolt into a 3 inch circle at 50 yards... though I would prefer a closer shot, it's nice to know how accurate it is. Solidly built, great safety features & fun to shoot. I have fired it about 50 times with zero issues other than the bolts penetrating the target too much & fletching getting damaged.
This bow, hands down beats any crossbow within that price range on the market, Super-fast and drives tacks.
I’m really surprised at the power and accuracy the Xpx puts out. I can’t wait to hunt with it
Who would have thought an impulse buy from Wally World would be so much fun? Got it on clearance and a little target block a bout a week ago. Pros: The internal 3 shot magazine is pretty cool and the compact frame makes it easy to tote. The bolts fire well and accurate up to about 20 yards. The fiber optic sights are ok. I like the picatinny rails which open up options for customizing.
Cons: I wish there was a way to flatten the bow to make it back packable, like the storm. The fiber optic could be better if the black plastic was clear due to the target being obscured by the front sight post. How hard would it be to put the smallest red spot scope on it? I wouldn’t take a shot at small game outside of about 15 yards. Also, the bolts look like they’re out of production due to them not being on the website or available on Amazon, which kinda sucks because there are grooves on the bolts which make it more proprietary of a design, so not just any 7” bolt will do. Reached out to Barnett but have not heard back.
The Barnett Recruit XP seems to overall a good crossbow. Two things the engineer's missed. No way to decock it so you have to shoot a practice arrow every time you come in from hunting. Second thing is the quilter. It is so close to the stock it makes it hard to carry and the arrows are hard to get out of it
Supposed to be universal. Doesn’t fit the rail and too small
For the crank hook.
